A.W. (Pete) Smith, Jr.

Mr. Smith was elected a Director of AllianceBernstein Corporation on July 26, 2005. In addition to being elected a Director, Mr. Smith has been elected a member of the Audit Committee of the Board and the Compensation Committee of the Board. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Private Sector Council, a non-profit public service organization dedicated to improving the efficiency, management and productivity of the federal government, from September 2000 until his retirement in May 2005. From 1993 until 2000, Mr. Smith served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, which he had served in various other capacities since 1968. Mr. Smith is President of Smith Consulting, and he is a director of Maryland Permanente Medical Group, National Rehabilitation Hospital and the Non-Profit Roundtable of Greater Washington.
