Valuation

The process of determining the value of an asset or company.

Value averaging

An investment strategy designed to diminish volatility. Securities, typically mutual funds, are obtained at regular intervals in amounts which increase when the market drops and decrease when the market rises. However, value averaging does not assure a profit or protect against loss in a declining market.

Value Fund

A value fund is a mutual fund that invests primarily in value stocks. A value stock is a stock that is considered to be undervalued.

Variable annuity

A life insurance annuity contract which provides future payments to the holder, usually at retirement, the size of which depends on the performance of the portfolio’s securities.

Volatility risk

Risk which is due to the unpredictable changes in the volatility of the underlying asset.
