Inflation is a critical risk when investing for retirement—it can significantly erode a portfolio’s purchasing power over time. Target-date funds have become the default vehicle used by many workers to fund their retirements, but these funds may not provide enough protection against inflation risk. In this white paper, we discuss how adding real assets—such as commodity stocks and futures, and securitized real estate—to a retirement portfolio can make it significantly more resilient when faced with inflation.
