Valerie S. Grant is a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager in the Equities Department at AllianceBernstein (AB). She manages Responsible US Equities, a large-cap US equity portfolio that invests in companies with improving or best-in-class environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance that are performing well or improving within the dimension of corporate social responsibility while generating attractive risk-adjusted returns. Grant engages with clients, the media and other stakeholders on AB’s capabilities in responsible investing as the firm expands its presence in this area. She serves on the firm’s Proxy Voting and Governance Committee, which oversees the firm’s proxy voting policies and processes, and previously co-chaired the Equities ESG Research Committee. In addition, Grant is a member of the Standards Advisory Group at the Value Reporting Foundation (formerly Sustainability Accounting Standards Board), which advises the foundation on issues that should be considered in the development of corporate disclosures on ESG issues. Previously, she was a senior research analyst covering the media, internet and consumer discretionary sectors for AB’s US and Global Large Cap Value portfolios. Prior to that role, Grant covered the healthcare and consumer discretionary sectors for the firm’s US Small and Mid-Cap Value team. Before joining AB in 2006 as a short specialist for the Advanced Value and Global Opportunities funds, she managed corporate acquisitions, divestitures and licensing transactions in the Corporate Development Group at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Grant holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School. She was also a Rotary Foundation Scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of Zimbabwe and is a CFA charterholder. Location: New York
