William Johnston is a Portfolio Manager for the Sustainable International Thematic Equities Portfolios and a Senior Research Analyst for the Sustainable Thematic Equities Portfolios. He joined AB in 1998 as a research analyst, and covered European banks until 2011. Johnston has been Financials Sector Head for the International Growth Research team since its inception in 2002, and Financials Sector Head for the Global Growth Research team since 2009. Prior to joining the firm, he was an analyst at Fleming Investment Management, where he covered UK banks, media, property and other financials. Before that, Johnston worked for the Industrial Bank of Japan in London as a qualified chartered surveyor on the Property Finance team, and also worked in the Investment Banking division, advising on UK property finance and investment. He holds an MA in history from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from City, University of London. Johnston was nominated in Institutional Investor’s Best of the Buy Side survey in 2001.
